Preparing for College
Grade 9
Classes and Courses

*   Choose classes that prepare you for college; choose challenging courses (Pre AP classes, AP classes, & Dual Credit) in your 4 year plan

*   Establish positive relationships with teachers

*   Meet and get to know your counselor

Resume Building

*   Get involved at school and with community activities (sports, clubs, UIL, community service)

*   Create a portfolio – create your own or use the Bridges program at school (community service, awards, clubs, memberships, report cards)

Career and College

*   Verify your college and career interests align with your four year plan

*   Discuss college possibilities with parents

*   Attend College 101 night for parent and students

Evaluation

*   At the end of the school year re-assess your 4 year plan to confirm your goals and interests align with your college and career plans
