Preparing for College
Grade 10
Classes and Courses

*   Continue to take the more challenging courses, building your academic skills and study habits

*   Verify your 4 year plan aligns with your career and college interests

*   Continue to establish relationships with faculty and staff

*    Consult with your counselor if you are considering Early Graduation

Resume Building

*   Stay involved at school and with community activities (sports, clubs, UIL, community service)

*   Update your portfolio with awards and activities

Career and College

*   Take the PSAT test (required for all 10th grade students)

*   Verify your college and career interests align with your 4 year plan

*   Investigate careers by talking to adults in a variety of profession; explore the career interest inventory on the Bridges program

*   Research colleges/universities via their website (pay close attention to admission requirements)

*   Take the Asset to prepare for Dual Enrollment classes

*   Attend College 101 night for parents and students

*   Visit some college campuses

Evaluation

*    At the end of the school year re-assess your 4 year plan to confirm your goals and interests align with your college and career plans

*     Evaluate courses your have taken against college admission requirements; make changes in future course selections if needed
